The solution on GNU/Linux Kubuntu 8.04 is the second, i.e.:

CONFIG_SHELL=/bin/bash ./Build...

It install 303 executables.

I note only a single (ignored) error:

> `[...]/work/texlive/Work/libs/freetype2/freetype2/freetype/internal': No 
> such file or directory
> make[5]: [install] Error 1 (ignored)
