By "ROOT" do you mean the system root "/" or the "$PREFIX" I've chosen ?

I've an experimental system running Linux From Scratch (LFS), in which all the executables are linked against a non-standard installation of GLibC. So I want to see if complicated software like TeX can run on such a system.
