Hi all,

just playing with the installer to see if things actually work...
Sorry if this is not the right place, but I have one question/request
re the installer script: if you just download the installer and run
the top-level install-tl script as given in the instructions, it will
simply tell you that the system directories aren't writeable. Wouldn't
other solutions be more user-friendly?

1. Give users the opportunity to escalate their privileges by asking
for their sudo password (might be difficult for linux/bsd/solaris
distros which don't have sudo installed by default), or at least

2. issue a warning, something like "You don't have sufficient
privileges to write to the system directories on this computer. If you
would like to install TeXLive to these directories, please run the
script as super-user or with the 'sudo' command. Really continue: Yes/
No"

Would this be possible/reasonable?

Thomas
