I am open to any alternative suggestions. The way it currently works
is this: GitHub automatically builds TeXworks whenever the code is
changed. The resulting binaries are available on TeXworks' GitHub
Actions page for anyone who has a (free) GitHub account. However,
there are some who don't want such an account, and for those the
nightly project [1] enables direct access to the automatically built
binaries. From my perspective, this is a very useful option, as it
does not requiring downloading/uploading/copying any files around.<br>
<br>
For context, the automatic building and testing process has been
working well, and I do not have the time (or willingness) to
manually build and upload binaries for each supported platform each
time the code is changed.<br>

Regarding your SSL/TLS issue: For me, the error message<br>
curl: (35) LibreSSL/3.8.2: error:1400442E:SSL
routines:CONNECT_CR_SRVR_HELLO:tls<br>
v1 alert protocol version <br>
hints at the fact that an "outdated" protocol version is used that
the server maybe simply refuses. With unsupported software, at some
point this is bound to happen (I had a similar problem at work a
while ago, when a WinXP machine suddenly couldn't connect to a file
server anymore because the server refused all insecure
authentication methods after an update).<br>
<br>
But FWIW, in a virtual machine, I could download TeXworks
successfully via the nightly link (on <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://tug.org/texworks/">https://tug.org/texworks/</a>
under "Online resources") with:<br>
Win 7 Pro, SP 1 (64bit)<br>
Microsoft Edge 109.0.1518.140<br>
as well as<br>
Firefox 115.7.0esr<br>
