Dear TeXworks users,

a new minor release (0.6.4) is around the corner, which will hopefully
make it into TeXLive 2020. To get ready for that, I ask you to test the
latest version of TeXworks. It is available at the following locations:
Windows:
https://bintray.com/texworks/Windows-latest/TeXworks-for-Windows%3Alatest
Mac OS X: https://bintray.com/texworks/OSX-latest/TeXworks-for-Mac%3Alatest
Ubuntu: https://launchpad.net/~texworks/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
Source code: https://github.com/TeXworks/texworks

The Windows and Mac builds come with the latest versions of libraries
(Qt, poppler, etc.). On the TeXworks side of things, the most noteworthy
changes to check are:
* Fixes for several bugs
* Quite extensive internal restructuring (which you can't see directly,
unless they introduced some bug ;))
* Non-ascii commands should now be highlighted correctly
* The "Find" feature uses a new, more powerful regular expressions
engine (QRegularExpression)
* "Auto-follow focus" is now configurable in the preferences
* Line spacing in the editor is now configurable in the preferences
* The shortcuts for auto-completion are now configurable (see
https://github.com/TeXworks/texworks/commit/f63288063f980c18a55c4756d654032a22bdec25)
* There is a new shortcut to invoke SyncTeX at the cursor position in
the editor (Ctrl+Shift+J by default, configurable via actionJump_To_PDF)

Note that the latest version should be quite stable (obviously, since
we're heading towards a release), but of course there are no guarantees
(that's what this testing call is for). So if you are in the middle of a
very important project, it might be advisable to stick to whichever
version has already proven to work for you in the past.

Especially users on Windows and Mac OS X I ask to check the files
base14-fonts.pdf and poppler-data.pdf available at
https://github.com/TeXworks/texworks/tree/master/testcases to see if
they are rendered correctly (there are reference .png files there for
comparison). This request is related to the packaging of additional
files the poppler PDF engine needs to display certain things (like
non-embedded fonts or CJK characters).

As a side note, the TeXworks project is always looking for contributors.
This is by no means limited to C++ coders. For example, TeXworks is
translated to a number of languages. However, some translations (notably
simplified Chinese and Arabic) are currently not maintained. If you want
to help update them (or translate TeXworks to an additional language),
please have a look at
https://github.com/TeXworks/texworks/wiki/Translating. Also, please
don't forget to drop a note on the mailing list to avoid having several
people working side-by-side on the same language without knowing of one
another.
For some further ways of contributing to the project, have a look at
http://www.tug.org/texworks/#How_can_you_help.

All the best,
Stefan
