[texworks] How to use Insert Citations...?

Dear all,

I want to know how to use the new function "Insert Citations..." in 
version 0.6.3.

I did the following: click Edit -> Insert Citations...

But then at the bottom of the interface, i.e., in the status bar, a 
sentence appears, which says
"No '%!TEX bibfile' modline found".

I don't know what does it mean, and I am pretty sure there is a .bib 
file in the same directory.

Does anyone know what happen to that and how can I cite the reference?
