[texworks] Message from TeXworks user

Hello,

I'm teaching a class about LaTeX and one of the students managed to corrupt
a file in a way, I've never seen before and don't know what to do.
When she tried to make a pdf, she didn't run the *.tex file, instead, she
tried to change the ending of the file from *.tex to *pdf. She then ran the
program And every bit of data was lost. Now we can't open any file, pdf or
tex.
Is there anything we can do to recover the document?
