[texworks] Compilation with error in encoding T1

Yeah, you're right. My fault.
But if I understand those LaTeX messages correctly, the error occurs
while LaTeX is still parsing fontenc.sty, right? A quick glance over
that file showed me several \IfFileExist checks, so normally there
shouldn't be a problem (in fact the example compiled nicely on my
machine). Maybe the fontenc package is corrupted? In that case I'd
suggest reinstalling the package providing fontenc.sty (however that is
called in MiKTeX). Another option would be to update the texmf file
database, but I'm not sure if this would help in this case (seeing that
all the other files were found).
Still, my question stands if other documents (such as the minimal
example I posted before) work. This could give a hint whether this is a
fundamental problem affecting the whole LaTeX intallation or only a
limited phenomenon which affects a few packages, maybe.
