Right, that should be harmless (depending on how you do the  
conversion, I guess, but in principle at least the PDF can simply  
embed the original data with no degradation).

Certainly! I wasn't aware of this until your report. The good news is  
that it has apparently already been fixed in poppler; the not-so-good  
news is that building a fresh libraries package is a hassle (which is  
why I haven't done it yet). I'd really like to fix a couple of other  
library-related issues at the same time, but it all takes time.....
