It does. But for a grant with different partners, when there's one
coordinator collecting the partners' contributions, putting them
together, reorganizing them and sometimes rewriting them, PDF is an
option only for the final document, not for the different contributions.
Moreover, the report template provided by the agency is in RTF format
and includes tables and the like which only look correct when the RTF
file is opened with Word or OpenOffice. Until very recently OpenOffice
wasn't an option on the Mac, as there was no acceptable Mac port
(there was one actually, but it required X11 -- which many long-term
Mac users, including me, cannot get anything out of --, had issues
with native OS fonts and could not interpret Word or RTF tables
properly).
Now OpenOffice is at last usable on the Mac, and it's even superior to
Office Mac 2008 with respect to Office Windows 2007 compatibility:
Office 2008 Mac dropped Visual Basic entirely, which is necessary in
particular for satisfactory conversion to PDF (OS X can print to PDF,
but it ignores all hyperlinks within the Word document and creates one
PDF file per section), whereas OpenOffice implements Visual Basic and
exports to PDF satisfactorily.
