[texworks] Setting search path, using (La)TeX for dvi and synctex

I read the pdftex manpage and added -output-format=dvi and I get a dvi  
file.

TeXShop, however, by some magic, creates both a dvi file and a pdf --  
is it sending the dvi file, behind the scenes, to dvips and  
ghostscript? Can that magic be duplicated in TeXworks?
