[texshop] Compile Problem

Hi All —

I’m adding to the discussion from December 2018 about a compile problem — the console window stopping during compile. Similar to the report on tex-SE <https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/466714/texshop-console-freezes-when-compiling-large-files-intermittent>, I have been working with a large textbook during the past year, and this freezing has been a persistent problem through several versions of TexShop.

I see these freezes intermittently, but sometimes at a rate of 20-30% efforts to compile … and sometimes only 1 in 10 or 20. I rarely see this issue with smaller, less complex projects. The book is around 800 pages, hyperlinked, indexed, and spread over many separate input files.

I am running TexShop 4.27 on Mac OS Mojave 10.14.5. I did not see this problem until the past roughly .. 9 months?

I wish I had a useful observation to add, but if there is some useful data I can share I’m happy to do so.

Regards,
John Lienhard

PS: I love TexShop and send my thanks to all who have made this tool possible!

Howdy,

I know many of use have had occasional lockups of the console window during compile. It's been frustrating because there doesn't seem to be any consistent way to generate the lockup and there doesn't seem to be anything noted in the System logs. A file cleanup and re-compile has always worked for me.

I just wanted to note that there has been mention of the problem on the TeX StackExchange, see <https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/466714/texshop-console-freezes-when-compiling-large-files-intermittent>. It might be worthwhile to get in touch with Tyler Jarvis to see if he can gather any helpful input to solve this problem since it seems to happen to him quite often.

Good Luck,

Herb Schulz
