[texshop] Sparkle updates fail (still)

A while back (Dec. 1), I reported a problem with updating via Sparkle (to TS 4.18).  Herb did help in trying to figure this out, but the problem persists.  I think the problem is self-inflicted, but I am not sure exactly what I did to create the situation.

In short, when I try to update via Sparkle, ever since that first time, I get the same problem:

I get an “Update Error” alert that tells me this:

"TeXShop can't be updated, because it was opened from a read-only or a temporary location. Use Finder to copy TeXShop to the Applications folder, relaunch it from there, and try again.”

I have repeated the suggested fix on many occasions, but the problem persists.  The error appears immediate, as if something in cache or prefs is borked.  I have tried moving the .plist out of the way and relaunching but the problem is still there.

In the meantime, I use the fallback of going to Dick’s TeXShop page to download.

Any thoughts as to what might be amiss?
