Yes, most publishers treat appearance as the single most important<br>
thing, because they believe their reputation is based on appearance<br>
rather than content. They are convinced that they need to control<br>
appearance first, before anything else. They are wrong, of course, but<br>

It was Knuth disgusted with Addison-Wesley typesetting of his books after the demise of the Lynotype that lead to it -- and NOT problems with the content.
