Flash player no longer supported, what happens to media9 and Skim?

I just learned about

https://ctan.org/pkg/media9

for playing movies in a PDF.  That page says:

"Playback of multimedia files uses the built-in Flash Player of Adobe
Reader and does, therefore, not depend on external plug-ins."

However, Flash is going away:

Apparently it is to be replaced by HTML5.

* What will happen to media9?  Is there a replacement?

* Can the Skim PDF displayer (for macOS) use HTML5?
