i can't speak with firsthand knowledge
for anything but computer modern.  but
i very much doubt that there is space
around an em-dash in other fonts because
one of the functions of an em-dash (at
least in metal) is to allow multiple
dashes to be set butted up against one
another to make a solid line, and for
that, spacing would be counterproductive.
