They are using TeXShop already and look for a similar environment on a
PC (which doesn't necessarily mean Windows).  Hence, TeXworks is a
good choice.

The preferred way is to use the network installer.

There are no such tools.

You are using the same commands on all platforms anyway; and get the
same results on all platforms.
