Yes, this is specified on the web page:

kerTeX has the right to call the plain tex instance tex(1) since it
passes the trip test (there is a Bourne shell script to test in the
distrib).

kerTeX has the right to call the plain metafont instance mf(1) since it
passes the trap test (there is a Bourne shell script to test in the
distrib).

And kerTeX has the right to call the plain MetaPost instance mpost(1)
since it passes the "twist" test (I have renamed the trap variant
torture test).
