The following email I posted on a internet forum and received no reply. The
problem is I'm trying to use an online citing system called refworks which
give me a .bib file. When compiled I end up with a ridiculously long
reference completely dissimilar to what my uni requires(
http://www4.rgu.ac.uk/files/Refworks%20RGU%20Vancouver.pdf ). If the
information is not enough to help me I will happily email it to someone who
is capable of sorting it out.
Many thanks. David A. Lumsden

My pdflatex is producing the following bibliography for one reference:

Heather J. Adam, Nancy M. Laing, C. R. King, Ben Lulashnyk, Daryl J. Hoban,
and
George G. Zhanel. In vitro activity of nemonoxacin, a novel nonfluorinated
quinolone,
against 2,440 clinical isolates. Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy,

This is a ridiculous output for my thesis.
My question is how might I produce the standard format below?

*ADAM, H.J. et al., 2009. In vitro activity of nemonoxacin, a novel
nonfluorinated quinolone, against 2,440 clinical isolates. Antimicrobial
Agents and Chemotherapy, 53(11), pp. 4915-4920 *
