[texhax] endfloat problem

I'm not sure what I am missing, but I can't seem to get \endfloat and
\numberwithin (or \counterwithin) to work together. I have the following
specified in my preamble:

\documentclass[12pt]{report}
\usepackage{amsmath}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\usepackage{chngcntr}
\numberwithin{figure}{chapter}
\usepackage[nolists, heads]{endfloat}

Chapters are written as separate documents and introduced using \include.
I would like to have my figures include the chapter number (e.g., Figure
2.1 for the first figure in Chapter 2). If I drop the endfloat command,
my figures are numbered correctly, but, as expected, the figures appear
within the body of the chapter. The endfloat documentation suggests that
markers can be altered by adjusting \thepostfig, but I am new to LaTeX and
it isn't obvious to me as to how to go about doing this.

My apologies if I am missing something obvious here. Any help would be
much appreciated.

Adam
