[texhax] Footnotes in separate file

Right.  In the paper I'm writing each footnote is in a separate file. 
However if one joins them into one file, then there must be a way to
separate them in the paper.  One could:

\input{myfootnotes}

near the start of the paper and myfootnotes.tex would contain

\newcommand{\footnoteA}[1]{\footnote{A anything} }
\newcommand{\footnoteB}[1]{\footnote{B building} }
\newcommand{\footnoteC}[1]{\footnote{C castle} }
\newcommand{\footnoteD}[1]{\footnote{D domain} }

so later in the paper one would\footnoteA\ and so on.

I tried this and it worked.
