[texhax] Conflict with mathtools and lucimatx

I'm typesetting a book using Lucida fonts (from TUG) with
lucimatx.sty from PCTeX. I didn't install anything else from the
PCTeX package ---that is, tfm, vf, fd, etc.--- as, from what I see,
they are exactly the same as the ones I got from TUG.

Now ---lucimatx has worked without a problem, but now that I want to
add mathtools.sty I get errors like

> ! Missing \endcsname inserted.
> <to be read again>
>                    \mathrel
> l.10 \newlabel{ec:18.1}{{XVIII.1}{488}}
>
> ?
>
> LaTeX Warning: Label `ec\mathrel {\mathop \ordinarycolon }18.1'
> multiply define
> d.
>
> ! Missing \endcsname inserted.
> <to be read again>
>                    \mathrel
> l.10 \newlabel{ec:18.1}{{XVIII.1}{488}}
>
> ?
>
> ! LaTeX Error: Missing \begin{document}

Commenting out mathtools makes everything work OK once more.

No matter the loading order, or if I put \usepackage{amsmath} or let
mathtools load it.

This is with mathtools 2007/12/03 v1.03 (the whole mh bundle, as a
matter of fact).

The packages I use (in loading order):

\usepackage[10pt]{type1ec}
\usepackage{fixltx2e}
\usepackage[greek,german,french,english,spanish]{babel}%
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}%
\usepackage{textcomp}%
\usepackage{amsmath}%
\usepackage{mathtools}
\usepackage[lucidasmallscale=true]{lucimatx}
\usepackage{bm}
\usepackage[expansion=false,protrusion=true,factor=1350]{microtype}
\usepackage[percent]{overpic}
\usepackage{calc}
\usepackage{verse}
\usepackage{xfrac} %%% <- Yes, I got template.sty, etc., the correct
\UseCollection{xfrac}{plainmath} %% versions; not the ones in TeXLive
\usepackage{floatpag}
\usepackage{color}
\usepackage[round]{natbib}
\usepackage{manyfoot}
\usepackage{url}
\usepackage{multicol}
\usepackage{booktabs}
\usepackage{tabularx}
\usepackage{tabulary}
\usepackage{multirow}
\usepackage{array}
\usepackage{dcolumn}
\usepackage{longtable}
\usepackage{makeidx}

Best,

Axel
