[when using graphix.] All's fine with pdflatex, however using
htlatex for html (which solves other problems) requires the
extension to find the file.

I'd like to specify the 'image' filename and let pdflatex use
the image.pdf file while htlatex incorporates the image.png file
inline.

I seem cornered to making two tex files, one for pdflatex and
the other for htlatex.

is there some way to coerce htlatex to use the image.png file
while continuing to use image.pdf in pdflatex. or maybe there is
another solution?

apparently I can just specify image.png in tex, but with scale=1
the pdf has resolution problems. so my best fix is to make big
images and scale=0.25 for png in both document types, which seems
kinda lame.
