I think they are too old for Mac OS X.

Wouldn't you prefer to install the OpenType Latin Modern fonts?:

http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/lm/fonts/opentype/public/lm/

You can place them in a single folder and put this in /Library/fonts
