[texhax] pdflatex interaction mode

Could someone please explain, or point to a resource that explains, the
specific differences between the pdflatex --interaction modes:

batchmode, nonstopmode, scrollmode, errorstopmode

The man page does not ellaborate and a quick google only turns up html
versions of the man pages.
