the following minimal document stopped compiling with the update of<br>
babel-french<br>

\usepackage{float}<br>
\usepackage[french]{babel}<br>
\newfloat{figure}{ht}{lof}<br>
\begin{document}<br>
Hello World<br>
\end{document}<br>
<br>
With version 3.5j (TeX Live package revision 55742) it compiles, with<br>
the current version 3.5k (TL package revision 56333) it fails with<br>
<br>
! LaTeX Error: Command \fnum@table undefined.<br>
<br>
Mind that the line<br>
\newfloat{figure}{ht}{lof}<br>
is essential, commenting it makes the document work again.<br>
<br>
I am not really sure where the issue is, anyone having an idea?<br>
