With version 3.5j (TeX Live package revision 55742) it compiles, with<br>
the current version 3.5k (TL package revision 56333) it fails with<br>

! LaTeX Error: Command \fnum@table undefined.<br>
<br>
Mind that the line<br>
\newfloat{figure}{ht}{lof}<br>
is essential, commenting it makes the document work again.<br>
<br>
I am not really sure where the issue is, anyone having an idea?<br>
