I would suggest that all such links should have the protocol/scheme removed; rather than specifying (e.g.,)
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://ctan">http://ctan</a>.<whatever>/ or
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://ctan">https://ctan</a>.<whatever>/, they should simply specify //ctan.<whatever>/; if served over HTTP, the resulting (implied) protocol will be HTTP; if served over HTTPS, the resulting (implied) protocol will
 be HTTPS.  We use schemeless URLs as standard on the hotel web site.<br>
