I use plain TeX coding and the XeTeX format. I have it working except that I have to include my macros and images in the same directory as the source file I am working on in order for XeTeX to find them---obviously not acceptable.</p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal> I am trying to get my macro and image files into the proper locations. I have read through what I think are the relevant instructions in the Tex-Live manual but still having problems getting started.</p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Reading section 3.4.6 Integrating local and personal macros, it seem that the appropriate directory for my own macros would be in ``TEXMFLOCAL (by default, … %SystemDrive%\texlive\texmf-local on Windows).’’ However, I cannot find this location on the system drive (drive C). <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>According to section 6.1, Automatic path adjustment, ``No manual configuration steps are required.’’ I figured that means during installation a TEXMFLOCAL “tree” would already be set. If it is set, then all I would need to do put my macros into the appropriate part of the TDS tree, right? But I don’t know quite how to do that.</p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>First question: what is the minimum structure I would need for TDS compliance? Ie., what goes after ”\texmf-local\” for the plain-TeX macros (targets of \input) and what goes after ”\texmf-local\” for the XeTeX-readable image files (targets of \XeTeXpicfile)?</p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Second question: what comes BEFORE the ”\texmf-local\” on my system? How can I find out?</p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>I found a MikTeX Settings utility that lets me identify the location of registered root directories and let me add to them.
