Hi Michael,

What do you get as output for

	time sudo /usr/local/texlive/2025/bin/universal-darwin/fmtutil-sys --all

Here (MacBook Pro 13" M1 from 2020, macOS 15 Sequoia)

	115.97s user 3.05s system 93% cpu 2:06.84 total

This can take longer, though, depending on what's running on your Mac otherwise. For example, In TeX Live Utility's Log window, after some package updates a few days ago I got

hence 3.5 minutes.

Another possibility is that the 600s timeout is for the whole postinstall script, not just for the fmtutil call, and that something else before that takes longer than it should. Though I see nothing there that could take time: set PATH and MANPATH; create the empty texmf-local tree; set the paper size according to the default from System Settings; construct the TeXDist structure (a series of symlinks). After these come

/usr/local/texlive/2025/bin/universal-darwin/fmtutil-sys --all
/usr/local/texlive/2025/bin/universal-darwin/updmap-sys

and that's it.
