[pretest] \pdffakespace inserts a real space

Hi Ulrike,

    The new build of today seems to have handled most pdftex problems.

Thanh warns that even with the patch:
> interword spaces are not inserted at font switch when font expansion

So the fix is not complete, but it's an improvement (if we don't have to
back it out entirely). He doesn't plan to try to fix the above
no-space-at-font-switches for microtype this year, given all the
problems already encountered.
