Okie dokie. If you were born on 2022 Anno Domini, and I was just born this year, 2025. Who would be older? I reckon it'd be you.
With the same token, and I don't use neither Gnome nor Debian but it's my understanding, and I may be wrong here, that by default, the wayland environment takes precedence on that distro, regardless. Not .bash_profile nor any of its ilk.
With that being said, **.xprofile** on your $HOME directory and not **.profile** will by de facto, and by necessity take preference here.. Don't rely on **.profle** alone. **.profile** is just for kids and old ladies. Like french fries :D
Anyway. Follow Norbert's suggestion. and if that doesn't work then
echo $PATH on the terminal and if you don't see a texlive there, the variable has not been set.
I would definitely export it to the **.bashrc** file and try from there
Make sure you get the output that echo $PATH spits out annd then prepend it or append it. Doesn't matter really as long as you include it to whatever outputs echo $PATH gives. Then
export PATH=/usr/share/local/texlive/2025/bin/x86_64:$PATH
