[tex-live] Xindy (follow-up)

Dear All,

For what is worth, a follow-up to Dick's and Akira's messages: here on the Mac, running Herb's example with -v option gives on TL-2017

$ texindy -v -L english -C utf8 -o concepts.ind concepts.idx
Running filter: "/Library/TeX/texbin/tex2xindy" <"/var/folders/sv/xbhqb27j7nz_18p7g94st6tw0000gn/T/eGzz75baAv" >"/var/folders/sv/xbhqb27j7nz_18p7g94st6tw0000gn/T/DvTTA3C34Y"
Opening logfile "/dev/null" (done)
Reading indexstyle...
[...]
Markup written into file "concepts.ind".

and the .ind files are created as they should; but on TL-2018 this gives

$ texindy -v -L english -C utf8 -o concepts.ind concepts.idx
Running filter: "/Library/TeX/texbin/tex2xindy" <"/var/folders/sv/xbhqb27j7nz_18p7g94st6tw0000gn/T/GKVyAME4nO" >"/var/folders/sv/xbhqb27j7nz_18p7g94st6tw0000gn/T/EzSKEKH9xF"

and that's it: no further Terminal output, no .ind file, just the prompt "$" back.

Using the -d option with any magic keyword (script, level=, etc.) yields the same output with both TL-2017 and TL-2018.

So it seems that on TL-2018 texindy deals with its options then silently aborts, without reaching the point where it deals with the log file and starts processing the input file.

(Disclaimer: I'm no xindy user myself, hence unfamiliar with its operation.)

Bruno
