[tex-live] since when does platex format incorporate e-TeX extensions?

Hi,

I found very nice platex-en.pdf, which says:

> In recent versions of TEX Live and W32TEX, the default engine
> of pLATEX changed from original pTEX to e-pTEX (pTEX with e-pTEX extension),

I would like to know since when since is the case, and
have not found yet the information in this document.

Can someone please help me out?

(I checked also texlive-en.pdf)
