Not exactly new - I thought I'd updated the page at
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/8.2/pst/tl-installer.html
to specifically mention this, but apparently not.  With ncurses-6,
./configure --prefix=/usr \
 --with-shared \
 --without-normal \
 --without-debug \
 --without-cxx-binding \
 --with-abi-version=5
 [ or whatever prefix you want ] does the job.
