[tex-live] texinfo not happy with texlive not producing log?

My Gentoo system is definitely not up-to-date but I get

  $ emerge --search perl-tk
  *  dev-perl/perl-tk

instead of 

  dev-perl/Tk

Can anybody with a recent Gentoo release clarify?
