Indeed, good hint!!!


The solution is the following: After calling
	tlmgr paper .....
or similar, a copy is generated in texmf-config, because otherwise
the changes might get overwritten.

This file (at least)
	texmf-config/tex/generic/config/pdftexconfig.tex
needs to be removed!
