That does not work for me. The environment variable is expanded by cmd
and then I get the same error from pdflatex
set texfileshort=c:\Docume~1
pdflatex "%texfileshort%\test.tex"
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.5-1.40.14 (TeX Live 2013/W32TeX)
