Hi,
The versions are the same:
exam.cls 2011/05/22 Version 2.4 by Philip Hirschhorn
ifthen.sty 2001/05/26 v1.1c Standard LaTeX ifthen package (DPC)
article.cls 2007/10/19 v1.4h Standard LaTeX document class
size10.clo 2007/10/19 v1.4h Standard LaTeX file (size option)
fontenc.sty
t1enc.def 2005/09/27 v1.99g Standard LaTeX file
I manually checked the other ones, loaded by babel.
I couldn't find a babel language with which that document would build.
According to my debugging using \typeout, pdflatex seems to get lost somewhere
in exam.cls.
