[tex-live] Fatal format file error; I'm stymied

Thanks for the hint to the env variables! The only problem was that TEXMFVAR was set to

TEXMFVAR=/usr/local.hg/app/teTeX/current/texmf-var

simply doing 

export TEXMFVAR=

solves the problem...,
