This has nothing to do with DANTE e.V. et al. And I'm seriously
pissed off by such comments. Ulrike, do you want to shut down CTAN
completly? Tell me.
We had a CTAN Web Site managed by a person who declined to do any
communication with the (2 [sic!!]) persons who manage CTAN day by
day. (Without those 2 poeple, no TeX Live packages, to make it
relevant to this mailing list.) OK, his choice. Not a situation to
be sustained by long.
We found a volunteer who created a new Web Site. He's a well
respected member of the TeX developer community. There are problems
with the new site, OK. But the new maintainer reacts to emails and
tries to improve his work. He has his own thoughts and straight
will. Well, whom of us didn't? You know, all those strongly minded
TeX developers with their supreme care and sensitive handling of
other TeX developers who pops up in our thoughts (e.g., Phil,
David, Frank, Reinhard, Norbert, Martin, and me ;-). For me, for
the task at hand, he's much better than the former maintainer who
strictly refused to have contact with CTAN maintainers.
There are people who try to help work on CTAN. I'm happy that I was
able to help to make some of them interested in the work. There
from Germany, where I live, OK. But -- they have nothing to do with
DANTE e.V -- believe me, Ulrike's comment is completely off.
So, If you're not from Germany -- ideally, from the US, we need
somebody there --, want to prevent the takeover of DANTE e.V of the
developer community, want to help and are willing to spend at least
an hour per day for this kind of work, get in contact. The TeX
community is waiting for you. 0.5 :-)
IMNSHO, of course.
