That allowed me to find the probable cause of the problem.

In the bounce - is U+2212 MINUS SIGN encoded in UTF-8 (b^H^R is the 
UTF-8 encoding with the MSB stripped).

I think I cut and pasted from the PDF showed by `texdoc updmap` (at 
least I can reproduce it that way, while typing directly an hyphen gives 
U+002D). And when I re-sent the mail here, I just replaced the k by live 
without touching the rest of the address.
