I have 8Mbit ADSL at home. Network installation takes a few hours. If
I install from DVD produced by DANTE, when it cames it is really
outdated. Installation takes more than half an hour and the first
network update takes a few hour. I do not save more than ten minutes
but most probably it is even longer than the network installation from
scratch.
If I would like to save students' time, I would distribute the
installed updated tree and explained them how to set PATH on the
unix-like system or how to do tlmgr postaction on Windows. doing that
they will receive up-to-date installation, not an outdated version
that will required loooooong update over a slow ADSL line.
