I decided that I wanted my texlive directly (via DVD then usb stick) rather
than from within the distro. Then I can manage my tex installation via tlmgr.
But 2012 hasn't got the armhf binaries, so I downloaded the sources and
compiled.
Two issues I found:
* Wheezy's /bin/sh is dash and not bash. "Build" is #!/bin/sh and it barfed.
It has some bashism in it, so I had to run it as "bash Build". It does call
other things with /bin/sh in them, but it did not seem to cause a problem[1].
* RAM. Some of the tests failed because of inadequate RAM, so I gave it a
temporary 1GB swapfile and it was happy[1].
[1] "Problem" being defined here as "did not write 'FAIL' into the log file,
and the resultant binaries don't barf".
Then installed with "install_tl --custom-bin=...". Tested and all fine, or so
it would seem.
Is that all there was to it? Apart from about 8hrs runtime it wasn't any
hassle to compile.
Anything else I should know?
If it is apparently that easy would I be making a foolish promise to supply
the official armhf binaries for texlive?
