What does
kpsewhich fmtutil.cnf
say? And can you send
/var/lib/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf
But I must say it will be hard to track that down without me having
access to that computer. I cannot get hold of 2007 packages now,
and I cannot remember exactely what was done back then in the old
times ;-)
