Hi Lars,

can a profile be written to simply install everything currently present
in tlnet? Without listing the collections?

Yes. Just have a line in the profile:
selected_scheme scheme-full
(or whatever scheme you choose) and *no* collection lines.

You'll also want to set the TEX* directory values, and perhaps
some of the option* values if you want to override the defaults.
Of course, the less you need to specify, the more future-proof :).

For reference, this is mentioned in the description of -profile in
install-tl --help, aka http://tug.org/texlive/doc/install-tl.html.

Does anyone have experience regarding installing TL via a kind of
    Windows deployment?

Not on Windows, but I routinely do batch installations using different
profiles when testing.

BTW: the documentation states that a TL installation should leave a
.profile of the just installed Tl. We did not find any created via

If the installation succeeds, it should be in tlpkg/texlive.profile.
If the installation fails, no profile is written.

Hope this helps,
Karl
