[tex-live] Win 7: installationproblems, Perl stopped working

Hi list

Yesterday a colleague gave an introductionary talk about LaTeX (with 
about 300 attendees ;-)

After the talk users would get help to install TL.


Now I'd like some help with an installation issue.

A student came to me today, she has a Win 7, Home premium, 64-bit.

When we try to start the netinstall, get keep getting a crashing perl

Wehn we run install-tl.bat we get a message saying

"Perl has stopped working"

does anyone have any ideas as to how we can debug this issue?

- I usually do not work with windows

so I would appreciate some ideas as to things we can test.

It is not the first time we have seen this problem. The other times it 
has been because the user has been messing with the PATH variable, but 
in this case the PATH variable seems ok to me.

(not sure if it is an issue with 64-bit windows, I only have a 32-bit 
Win7 on my test laptop).

Ideas?
