/etc/environment is read at login, right? Then a log out-log in would
be enough, if that's what you mean ---as Lars implied in his reply:
[with his symlink] ``no reboot/relogin is needed''.
I admit it's a mania I have for rebooting instead of log out and log
back in ---in pre X MacOS (System 9 and back), a reboot was always a
good way to clean up memory, which wasn't managed as efficiently as
with today's *nix OSs.
