I tried to reproduce that.

I have reduced the version number of my tpic2pdftex.x86_64-linux package
by 1, and now I see
tpic2pdftex 18835 (1.97) for local version
18835+ (1.97) for remote version
but I don't see any warnings/errors?
What did you do on that occasion? Can you reproduce that? And if yes,
what were the revision numbers of the tpic2pdftex and tpic2pdftex.x86_64-linux
(replace the last part with your platform) packages?
