[tex-live] report on installation of TeX Live pretest on Win XP.

I recently installed TL 2011 pretest.
There were issues with my university's connection to the
internet. My first try ended with install-tl aborting after
downloading a few dozen packages. On a second try, there
were frequent "Error 500", nevertheless install-tl soldiered
on, retrying time after time for a couple of hours. It
managed to download a few hundred packages before I canceled it.
I tried again this morning, and this ran without problems,
completing in less than 1 hour.
It was a custom installation and I have a couple of custom
formats. They were attempted, but failed, until I added a
collection (fontsextra) that I had forgotten and a package
(eplain). tlmgr installed both without any problems.
All my pdftex-based formats function well on some of my recent
documents, as did metapost. XeLaTeX worked fine on the pstricks
example recently discussed in this forum. Also tested and working
well: dvips and ps2pdf.
TeX Live on Windows now seems to pay attention to my
self-created HOME variable in its definition of TEXMFHOME.
Thanks for that.
Thanks for all the work that surely went into making this a
pretty smooth installation.
Regards,
Dan
